This has been an exciting year so far for the Lyme-Old Lyme High School (LOLHS) cross-country team. After three years of renovation at the school, the teams were finally able to host their first meet, a scrimmage, on Sept. 6.
At that meet, senior Stuart Ross finished first for the boys in 18.03.06 followed by sophomore Ross Golebiewski with a time of 18.20.25. The boys (pictured left) handily won the scrimmage with leaders Ross and Golebiewski followed by Cole McKnight, Jacob Watts-St. Germain and Jeff Davis (all seniors). The Old Saybrook girls were the winners on the girls side.
The boys have continued to rack up the wins, taking first place in all but one of their meets so far this season. The boys Junior Varsity team is also doing very well with several first place finishes.
The girl’s team is relatively young, but turning in some good performances with three promising freshman on the varsity team.
Cross Country at LOLHS continues to be dominated by the boy’s team (39 members) compared to the relatively small (13) girl’s team.
A “mega meet” was held today at Haddam-Killingworth (HK) High School where, although the competition was fierce, the Wildcat boys achieved a superb 1st place, defeating HK 32-33.
The top five LOLHS runners came in 1st, 5th, 6th, 7th and 13th places, while Haddam-Killingworth’s top five finished 2nd, 4th, 8th, 9th and 10th.
Many congratulations to all the runners and also, coaches Barb O’Leary and Bill Rayder!
