HS Building Plan Faces State Funding Uncertainties
Lyme-Old Lyme Public School Superintendent Elizabeth Osga has issued a press release regarding the uncertainties the district is facing regarding the Lyme-Old Lyme High building plan. Referencing what she describes as, "The state's woeful economic status," Osga says "Rumors of “bonding moratoriums” have been floating episodically through the state," and notes pragmatically, "No one is taking these rumors lightly." Read More ...

Many Hands Help Haiti
In response to the devastating earthquake in Haiti, the local Haitian community in Deep River is joining with the Rotary Clubs of Deep River, Essex, and Chester as well as the Interact Club at Valley Regional High School, to raise funds for much needed medical care in Haiti by hosting a dinner focusing on Haitian cuisine accompanied by Patois music on Feb. 23 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the First Congregational Church of Deep River. Read More ...

When they met earlier in the season, the Old Lyme girls lost 37-40 at home to a feisty Portland team. Last night, in a tight, intense game, it was a different story when the Wildcats bounced back to defeat the Highlanders 45-38. More Spring Census Job Tests to be Announced in OL
The U.S. Census Bureau is now hiring nationwide for the 2010 Census.  These temporary, part-time jobs offer good pay, flexible evening and weekend hours up to 40 hours a week, and a chance to work near home.   Workers are needed in almost every community.  Further tests in Old Lyme for Census jobs in the spring of 2010 will be announced shortly. Read More ...

Who Shines in Old Lyme?
Two Lyme-Old Lyme High School seniors have come up with an ingenious idea for their mandatory senior project. Cassie Algar and Alex Borsari are hosting a Talent Show on Thursday, Feb. 25, to raise funds to help Naima Douglas, an Old Lyme resident who lost her mother in the tsunami in American Samoa, visit her home and also to benefit the island nation's recovery efforts. Read More ...

The Katharine Hepburn Cultural Arts Center is forming a Guild for its volunteers that serve the theater as ushers, parkers, box office personnel, boutique volunteers, receptionists, and theater docents. 9 Town Transit Continues Free Bus Fares for Seniors
The Estuary Transit District’s 9 Town Transit will continue its popular free senior bus fares with some changes to simplify the program.  The free fares are valid on all 9 Town Transit services for travel throughout the Estuary region.  Any resident of the nine town Estuary region (Chester, Clinton, Deep River, Essex, Killingworth, Lyme, Old Lyme, Old Saybrook, and Westbrook) age 60 or older qualifies for the program. Read More ...
