All About Invasives—Learn How to Nip Aquatic Weeds in the Bud … and More, June 11

May 18, 2025 by Elizabeth Regan

This photo, taken in September 2020 during an inspection of Lyme’s Whalebone Cove, illustrates the threat presented by the pervasive strain of hydrilla affecting Connecticut waters. A June 11 presentation in Old Lyme will delve into how to keep the aquatic weed from taking root in Rogers Lake.

OLD LYME—All—especially swimmers, boaters and outdoor enthusiasts—are invited to a presentation and interactive session on the invasive aquatic weeds threatening Rogers Lake and other waters in the state.

The free program sponsored by the Rogers Lake Authority will be held in the Rogers Lake West Shores Association Club House at 75 Rogers Lake Trail on Wednesday, June 11, from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m.

Office of Aquatic Invasive Species Associate Scientist Greg Bugbee and Research Technician Summer Weidman will lead the presentation.

Bugbee and Weidman will talk about the importance of managing the spread of invasive plants, including a destructive strain of hydrilla making headway in Connecticut waters.

The presentation includes a hands-on exercise to attendees how to identify common aquatic invaders.

For more information, contact the Rogers Lake Authority here.
