OLD LYME — Last year, in an extraordinary and unexpected achievement, the Old Lyme boys basketball team won the Class S State Championship for the first time in the school’s history. The win was anything but predictable because the team had a new coach, Brady Sheffield, who was only 21-years-old. A Lyme-Old Lyme High School alumnus, this was his first job as the senior coach of a team.
Fast forward to 2025 and many were wondering if it was all a flash in the pan.
The team’s current standing would strongly suggest that is not the case.
The Wildcats came into Wednesday’s Shoreline Conference first-round game against North Branford on the back of a five-game winning streak. They then proceeded to demolish the Thunderbirds 55-36 with sophomore Eddie Fiske, Jr. scoring a game-high 27 points
Jason Cosgrove with 20 points was the highest scorer for the Thunderbirds.
This win took Old Lyme to a strong 16-3 conference record for the season and a 17-4 record for the season overall.
The top-seeded Wildcats now face the Cromwell Panthers in the Shoreline Conference semifinal tomorrow, Saturday, with a 3 p.m. tip-off. The game will be played in the LOLHS gym. All are welcome for a small admission fee to come and support our hometown team.
Go Wildcats!
