OLD LYME — UPDATED 2/3 with revised Intake date: The First Congregational Church of Old Lyme has announced that the ever-popular White Elephant Sale (WES) will return again this year on Friday, July 12, and Saturday, July 13. The Sale is run by the church’s Ladies’ Benevolent Society (LBS).
The annual Sale was hosted continuously for 83 years prior to 2020, but then cancelled in both 2020 and 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It was held in 2022 and 2023, so this year’s sale is now the 86th!
Bob Davis, who chairs the sale on behalf of the LBS, told LymeLine via email, “Last year’s sale was the biggest and best ever—the charities [that received donations from the LBS as a result of the funds generated by the sale] and the church thank everyone who supported the sale in any way.”
Hours for the sale are 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Friday and 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturday.
Intake will take place for six days only beginning Thursday, June 27, and continuing through Saturday, June 29. It will then resume Monday, July 1, and continue through Wednesday, July 3. Hours for Intake are 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. each day. Davis notes, “We urge people wishing to donate items to store them until June 27th. We have no place to store them until then.”
Volunteers are needed in every area of the sale. The page relating to the sale will be published soon on the church website and include details on how to volunteer. The WES phone line will open in early June.
Davis concludes, “We look forward to seeing everyone again at the sale in July!”
