LYME/OLD LYME/ AREAWIDE — On March 24, from 6 to 7 p.m., the Southeast Connecticut World Affairs Council (SECWAC) hosts Ada Ferrer who will give a Zoom presentation titled, “Cuba: An American History.”
Ferrer, who is the Julius Silver Professor of History and Latin American Studies at New York University, will discuss US-Cuba relations in the context of her new book “Cuba: An American History”.
As outlined by the publisher Simon and Schuster, Ferrer delivers an important and moving chronicle that demands a new reckoning with both the island’s past and its relationship with the US.
Spanning more than five centuries, “Cuba: An American History” provides us with a front row seat to witness the evolution of the modern nation, with its dramatic record of conquest and colonization, of slavery and freedom, of independence ad revolutions made and unmade.
Due to concerns about COVID, this program will be available only virtually via Zoom. Registration required by guests. The link to join the presentation will be emailed with your registration confirmation.
The presentation is free for SECWAC Members and $20 to Non-Members.
The mission of the SECWAC is to foster an understanding of issues of foreign policy and international affairs by study, debate, and educational programming, primarily through a Speakers Series of eight to 10 monthly meetings.
