OLD LYME — The Lyme-Old Lyme (LOL) Lions Club, which has been in existence for more than 40 years, serves the Lyme-Old Lyme community, the state, the nation and the world through its efforts to help those with challenges to their eyesight.
Learn about Lions Club activities and membership in the organization at their kick-off event at the Old Lyme Inn on Wednesday, Sept. 29, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. outside on the patio. There will be a short presentation by Lion Keith LeMire.
Hearty appetizers will be served, and as a guest of the Lions, you will receive a complimentary beverage.
The LOL Lions are a 30-member group of men and women full of energy and imagination. They wish to increase their numbers and would welcome friends and neighbors who wish to join them and follow the Lions motto of, ‘We serve.’ Becoming a local Lion is a way to give back to your community, build friendships, and work for the common good both here and in the world.
The Lions offer monthly programs of high interest for members and visitors. Their biggest event is the Annual Car Show. They also hold a yearly Pancake Breakfast on Superbowl Sunday at Lyme-Old Lyme High School. Proceeds from the events are used to fund scholarships and charities supported by the Lions Club.
Some of the ways “We Serve” are to:
- screen preschoolers for eye diseases
- raise funds for eye research and local low vision centers
- award scholarships to local students
- work in our local soup kitchen
- help those in need to get eye glasses and eye exams
- donate to worthy local charities.
