OLD LYME — Donald S. Bugbee Sr., 90, of Mile Creek Road, passed away peacefully after a short illness, Tuesday evening, March 9, 2021, in Lawrence + Memorial Hospital, while under Hospice care.
Mr. Bugbee was born Oct. 8, 1930, in New London, the son of Roger and Bernice (Morgan) Bugbee. He was a lifelong carpenter and property caretaker.
He is survived by his son Don Bugbee of Old Lyme and was predeceased by his parents; wife Dorothy Bugbee; daughter Deborah Rutty; daughter Patricia Bugbee; brother Ray Bugbee; and his partner Barbara Gardiner.
He was blessed in his life with nine grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren.
He enlisted and loyally served his Country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Throughout his life he enjoyed his family, friends, work, hunting, fishing, camping, square dancing, tractors, trips to Vermont and watching Old Lyme High School girls basketball games. After work was completed each day, he was commonly seen in his workshop at home where anything could be built, remodeled or fixed-up good as new.
A Graveside Service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 20, at the Laysville Cemetery in Old Lyme. All are welcome to attend. Family will gather privately prior to the Service at the Fulton-Theroux Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested any donations be made to the charity of their choice. The family would also like to thank all the Hospital and Hospice staff for their kind and comforting care during his last few days.
