The Duck River Garden Club (DRGC) hosts its first meeting of the year Monday, Sept. 25, at Old Lyme Memorial Town Hall starting with a “Welcome Back!” Social at 6:30 p.m. Gather prior to 6:30 p.m. in the parking lot behind the town hall for the Annual Members’ Tailgate Plant Exchange. Bring divisions and/or surplus indoor or outdoor plants to share with others.
At 7 p.m., Michael A. Russo, owner, “farmer-florist” and creative force of Trout Lily Farm located in North Guilford, will give the evening’s program, titled, “The Cutting Garden” or alternatively, “Off With Their Heads.” Members of the public are welcome to attend the presentation.
Does the idea of having a garden full of fresh blossoms, vines, and branches available to decorate your home or a client’s throughout the year entice you? If so, this presentation will provide you with the information necessary to plan, manage, and create your own cutting garden.
Russo will give his suggestions on favorite annuals, perennials, shrubs, bulbs, and vines to plant in your own “workhorse” of a garden, intended to provide a continuous bounty of botanical material for your creative floral endeavors. Resources for obtaining seeds, bulbs, and plants will also be provided for starting your own cutting garden.
The DRGC Business Meeting will be held at 8 p.m.
