To the Editor:
As a follow up to Kim Thompson’s letter dated September 17, I would like to review a few things.
Signs continue to be stolen from private property.
Here you have theft, as if someone stole your patio furniture.
You have trespassing.
You have infringement on free speech.
This is not mischief; they are criminal acts.
Maybe the thieves feel they are above the law, just like the felonious Republican candidate for President.
Sincerely,
Betsy Groth,
Old Lyme.

One night, after seeing a spectacular display of the Northern Lights, a political sign for Harris/Walz was stolen from my property on Ferry Road. I am an unaffiliated voter and this kind of action is exactly why I have chosen to vote for Harris/Walz. I have now discovered that one of my neighbor’s Harris/Walz sign was stolen last night as well. Of course, the thefts occurred in the middle of the night because that’s when immature, insecure small-handed criminals do their dirty work. My neighbor and I have both filed police reports for trespassing and theft. I have promised to press charges if/when these people are caught. We still live in a democracy and like my 15 ancestors who fought in the American Revolution, I will fight tooth and nail to uphold the values of our founders.

PS. I’ve had the day to reflect on my signage theft I need to tell you that it is just plain CREEPY to think of people who have nothing better to do than prowl our streets in the dark of night and steal political signs. What else might they do with this kind of irrational thinking? As one of my neighbors said, “Stealing political signs is really dumb.” Yes, and it is also childish, irresponsible, disrespectful and just plain CREEPY.

I would be interested in knowing if anyone is stealing Trump signs? Especially those incredibly obnoxious Flags that have been marring the beauty of our roads for month and years. Despite my dislike for the ugliness of the flags and the candidate they represent, I would NEVER infringe on my neighbors’ rights to free speech and the right to support their candidate of choice. Why do some people think that’s ok, and why do they think they should get away with it. I have a camera focused on my signs (a sad testament to our times) and will not hesitate to join those who go after people who think it’s ok to infringe on MY rights through tresspass.
