Alberta Martino passed away peacefully on Christmas morning with her daughters by her side. Alberta was born and raised in New Britain, CT to Albert and Anna Geringhelli. She grew up vacationing at Crescent Beach in Niantic, so when her husband’s job took the family to Old Lyme she couldn’t have been happier. She loved the water, being at the beach and thought the town was a great place to raise her family. Alberta and her husband had a wide circle of friends and she cherished those relationships.
Alberta earned her degree from Becker Junior College and worked for many years at Lawrence and Memorial Hospital. She retired with her husband so they could become Naples, Florida snowbirds and travel. She loved the many trips they took through Europe and the US. Alberta was also an avid painter and enjoyed working with both watercolor and oils. Health issues and hurricanes brought Alberta and her husband back to Connecticut full time. They moved to Niantic where she very quickly got involved with the Chapman Woods community. In 2021 they moved to Evergreen Woods to be closer to their daughters. Alberta’s grace and kindness was evident in everything she did. She was a loving mother and devoted wife.
She was predeceased by her husband Ronald and her sister, Inez Lapsis. She leaves behind her daughter Christine Carey and husband Michael and daughter Laura Martino and her spouse Elizabeth Ingalls. She also leaves behind her niece Patrice Eleveld and nephew Jack Donlan.
Visitation will be held on Friday January 26, 2024 from 9:00 AM to 10:30 AM at the Swan Funeral Home, 1224 Boston Post Rd., Old Saybrook. A Memorial Mass will follow at 11:00 AM in Christ The King Church, 1 McCurdy Rd., Old Lyme.
Gifts in memory of Alberta can be made to the Evergreen Woods Scholarship Fund, 88 Notch Hill Road, North Branford, CT 06471
