The Duck River Garden Club meets tonight, Monday, Feb. 26, 7 p.m. at Old Lyme Memorial Town Hall. Social time starts at 6:30 p.m. preceding the program at 7 p.m., which is followed by the business meeting at 8 p.m. The public is welcome.
The program presenter is Suzanne Thompson, Master Gardener, weekly CT Outdoors talk show host and feature and weekly column “Local Dirt” writer for The Day. Thompson is also active in local environmental groups.
She will present a program titled, ‘Striking a Sustainable Balance in your Yard and Community.’ Gardeners and conservationists are increasingly seeing eye-to-eye on landscaping, sustainable gardening and living with nature. Get inspired by large and small-scale examples of native plantings and naturalized settings, and learn how what we grow in our yards can help extend green corridors and needed wildlife habitat.
Thompson will bring a handout of resources along with a few gardening/landscape design books that deal with this very important topic.
