Salt Marsh Opera presents Music at the Lighthouse tonight at 6 p.m. at the Old Lighthouse Museum, 7 Water St., Stonington Borough, Conn. Fishers’ Island Sound creates the perfect backdrop for an evening of operatic favorites including music by Mozart, Puccini and Verdi hosted by executive director, Simon Holt, who is the Director of Music at the First Congregational Church of Old Lyme. The professional singers, who will be performing this evening, are baritone David Pittsinger, a regular at the Metropolitan Opera, and soprano Patricia Schuman, currently at Glimmerglass Opera.
The event will also debut “The Battle of Stonington.” Composed by Berklee College of Music senior Joe Holt (who performs at Hard Rock Café in Boston and The Bitter End in New York), with lyrics by Stonington author Meredith Brown, the song is a rousing 200th anniversary tribute to the Borough’s intrepid 1814 defense against the British.
This is an open-air concert by the sea on the lawn of the lighthouse museum. Famlies are welcome to bring their blankets and lawn chairs. The rain location is the Walker Building at Dodson’s Boatyard (194 Water St.) Parking is at the Town Dock.
Admission is $15 in advance or $20 at the door with children under 12 free. Call 888-788-4188 for reservations or visit www.saltmarshopera.org
