Despite a slow start and going behind early in the game, the Wildcats ultimately battled to a tense 68-57 victory in Saturday evening’s match-up against the Haddam-Killingworth Cougars.
With rarely more than a point between them through the first half after the initial faltering, the ‘Cats finally began to pull away in the fourth quarter thanks to some on target three-point shooting by Matti Fuller, who tallied a total of 20 points — nine of them coming in the final quarter.
Meanwhile, consistent free throw performances by senior captains Andrew Tyrol and George Logan and fellow senior Slater Gregroy notched another 18 out of 21 points.
Urged on by an enthusiastic crowd of supporters led by senior Sam Stadnick (pictured below), senior Paul Burdick and sophomore Jacob Ballachino also added critical points through the second half.
The second-seeded Wildcats now meet third-seeded Cromwell at home in the Lyme-Old Lyme High School gym at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 26.
