LYME/OLD LYME – If your idea of a perfect spring weekend includes geraniums, heirloom tomatoes, hanging baskets and finding an easy, local gift for the mothers in your life, this weekend in Lyme and Old Lyme has you covered.

Mother’s Day weekend brings two beloved community plant sales to town, with one in a new location.

The annual Mother’s Day Weekend Plant Sale hosted by the Duck River Garden Club returns at a new spot on the grounds of the Lyme Art Association, 90 Lyme St.

The sale runs Friday from noon to 6 p.m., and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Widely considered Old Lyme’s unofficial kickoff to gardening season, the event is known for drawing eager shoppers.

There will be hundreds of healthy varieties including hanging baskets, geraniums, perennials, members’ plants, native pollinators, annuals, vegetables and herbs.

The club’s assortment of geraniums is always a popular item. Preorder the best sellers by Friday morning for pickup at the sale. Simply email myduckrivergc@gmail.com with your order and include a phone number. Geraniums are $7 each.

Cash, checks and credit cards are accepted. A 3% discount is offered on cash or check payments.

Proceeds from the sale support educational programs, scholarships and civic beautification.

Lyme Grange Plant Sale

The Lyme Grange serves up plants, pollinator tips, activities for the kids and some sweet treats on Saturday.

Meanwhile, the Lyme Grange will transform into a springtime marketplace on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the corner of Route 156 and Sterling City Road, rain or shine.

Visitors will find heirloom tomatoes, hydrangeas, shrubs, herbs, annuals and hanging baskets, along with tips for building pollinator gardens at home.

Families can also stop by the “Junior Gardener” area, where kids can mix potting soil, plant pumpkin seedlings or sunflowers to take home, and create simple plant waterers from recycled bottles.

Coffee, baked goods and beverages will be available at the Grange sale for anyone looking to linger a little longer among the blooms.

Cash and credit cards are accepted.

All proceeds from the sale support ongoing building upgrades at the Lyme Grange, as well as agricultural programming for the community.
