Betty Maerz, 95, died July 30 at home in Riverview, Fla. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Aug. 12 in Essex, followed by burial at Duck River Cemetery in Old Lyme.

The longtime Connecticut College professor and French literature scholar, who called Lyme home for many years, died July 27 at age 75.

Born in the 1920s, she knew the hardships of the Great Depression and World War II, and marvelled at unimaginable discoveries in science and technology.

Calling hours will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. July 20, with a memorial service at 11 a.m. July 21 at Shoreline Church in Old Lyme.

Nancy will be remembered for her kind and generous spirit, her quiet strength, and a deep love for her family.  She found joy in everyday moments, and her greatest joy was her family. 

A lifelong engagement with poetry complemented D’Arista’s career in economic policy and academic research, culminating in a recent memoir.

Susan S. Campbell, 82, a deeply community-oriented mother and grandmother, passed away on May 21.

Watson Shallcross Coverdale Jr., 93, died June 10 in Niantic. He is survived by two sons and five grandchildren.

Mary is remembered for her joie de vivre and the way she made everyone she met feel seen, valued and understood.

Bradford, 89, passed away peacefully on May 3. A Memorial Service will be held May 30 at the First Congregational Church of Old Lyme.

Bill devoted his life to preserving 17th and 18th-century structures, referring to his work as a “labor of love, skill and patience in equal proportions.”

Kathy was someone who said yes: to friendship, to adventure, to travel, and to all the wonder the world had to offer.

Matthew was a loving son, grandson, brother and athlete who played lacrosse and soccer for the Wildcats while nurturing a passion for hockey.

The devoted husband, father and grandfather is remembered for his down-to-earth demeanor, humor, good cheer, warmth and height. 

The Old Lyme Historical Society invites the community to share memories of Mitchell, a founding member who oversaw the archives now named in her honor.

Mick McCarthy, 85, was a trusted and familiar presence at the Old Lyme fire stations for many decades, tending to the buildings, the grounds and supplies.

Nora Northrop, 67, a kind and devoted daughter and sister from East Lyme, died Feb. 8.

A celebration of Nancy’s life will be held at the First Congregational Church of Old Lyme on Saturday, Feb. 28.

Alison C. Mitchell, a lifelong activist for women’s rights and health, died Jan. 28 in Mystic.

Wendelin Evans Knight, of Old Lyme, passed away peacefully on December 3, 2025, in Middletown, CT, after a short illness.
