LYME/OLD LYME, CT – A Connecticut Department of Transportation paving project on Route 156 is now underway, with chip sealing proceeding south from the Route 82 intersection in Lyme.

A spokesperson for the state Department of Transportation (DOT) said the work, which began on July 1 and paused for the holiday weekend, is expected to be completed in the fall.

The eight-mile project spans Route 156 through East Haddam, Lyme and Old Lyme, from Route 82 to Route 1. Work includes surface patching, crack sealing and an asphalt rubberized chip seal designed to preserve and extend the life of the roadway.

Work is slated to run from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday, according to the DOT. Motorists should expect alternating one-way traffic, lane restrictions and flagger-controlled operations during active work periods, along with increased truck traffic and periodic delays.

The DOT said the project, combined with resurfacing on Route 201 in North Stonington, comes in at $2.5 million and is being carried out by Comer Contracting, Inc.

Officials continue to urge drivers to slow down and use caution when traveling through work zones.
