LYME/OLD LYME, CT – A Connecticut Department of Transportation (DOT) paving project begins April 1 on an eight-mile stretch of Route 156 in East Haddam, Lyme and Old Lyme.

Motorists can expect alternating one-way traffic on Route 156, Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. starting Wednesday. Flaggers will guide drivers through the work zone.

A DOT spokesperson said the project, which extends from the intersection with Route 1 to the intersection with Route 82, is scheduled to be completed this fall.

The project will include surface patching, crack sealing and the application of an asphalt rubberized chip seal. The agency said the treatment is typically applied to roads that are structurally sound but need their surfaces refreshed and protected to extend their lifespan.

The schedule may be modified or extended due to weather delays or unforeseen conditions. The DOT urged drivers to slow down and use caution when traveling through the area.
