Body Recovered from Connecticut River in Lyme Identified as 63-Year-Old Holyoke Man

The recovery came May 9 after a boater reported a body in the river, with fire departments from Chester and Lyme assisting state law enforcement in the response.

A body found last week on the Lyme side of the Connecticut River near the Chester-Hadlyme Ferry was identified as a man missing from Massachusetts since Jan. 13.

Donald Plasse, 63, of Holyoke, Massachusetts, went missing following an incident near the river in South Hadley, Massachusetts, according to a Monday news release from the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP).

The agency’s Environmental Conservation (EnCon) police are assisting Massachusetts State Police with the investigation.

The body was recovered on May 9 after a boater in the area of the ferry alerted authorities. An agency spokesman at the time said the body appeared to have been in the water for an extended period.

EnCon police, the Connecticut State Police Major Crimes Unit and fire departments from Lyme and Chester responded.

EnCon investigators identified Plasse based on records, according to the DEEP. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner issued the official identification.

The cause of death was not specified.
