OLD LYME, CT – Lymes’ Youth Service Bureau (LYSB) and the Lyme-Old Lyme Prevention Coalition will provide another opportunity to safely dispose of unused medications at Drug Take Back Day on Saturday, April 25.

The drive-through event will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Lyme Street firehouse, 69 Lyme St.

The event provides a free and anonymous way to rid homes of potentially dangerous, expired and unwanted prescription and over-the-counter drugs.

According to numbers from the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, 4,590 collection sites yielded 470,811 pounds of drugs during last April’s Drug Take Back Day. In Connecticut, 10,203 pounds of drugs were collected at 73 sites.

The mission of the Lyme-Old Lyme Prevention Coalition is to prevent and reduce youth alcohol and drug use by collaborating with the community to raise awareness, modify social norms, educate youth and adults, initiate policy change and promote healthy activities.

In addition to LYSB and the prevention coalition, the event brings together the Old Lyme Police Department, Old Lyme Fire Department, Connecticut State Police and U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration in support of the mission.
