FloGris ‘Patchwork’ Exhibition Invites Artists to Reflect on America at 250
Connecticut artists are invited to submit their perspective on history and community for the Florence Griswold Museum’s upcoming exhibition.

OLD LYME, CT – The Florence Griswold Museum invites artists to submit artwork for Patchwork: Connecticut Artists Consider 250, an exhibition celebrating the nation’s birthday and the museum’s legacy of supporting contemporary artists.
Submissions will be accepted through April 26 from artists who reside in Connecticut. The exhibition will be on view from June 27 to Nov. 8.
Patchwork finds inspiration in the Bicentennial Quilt created by Old Lyme quiltmakers in 1976 with scenes from local history. Representing the ways in which history is “patched together, preserved, and reinterpreted,” museum organizers said the quilt illustrates the museum’s longstanding goal of creating community through art.
The exhibition aligns with the themes established by the CT Commission for America 250. Artists submitting to Patchwork are encouraged to review the America 250 CT Planning Guide for ideas on how to connect their work to semiquincentennial themes, including telling inclusive stories, exploring the power of place, examining how history is remembered and promoting community and civic engagement.
Original works are accepted in all media.

The exhibition will be juried by Florence Griswold Museum senior curator Jenny Parsons, curator Amy Kurtz Lansing and senior director of education and visitor engagement David D.J. Rau.
