Continuing A Community Tradition of Public Service Journalism At LymeLine

Olwen Logan and LymeLine’s founder, Jack Turner, built a truly community-centered news hub. As it transitions to a nonprofit under LymeLine Inc., it will continue with the same trusted, neighborly voice.

Twenty-two years ago, the late John “Jack” Turner founded LymeLine because, in his words, “Lyme and Old Lyme get the short end of the news stick.”

That’s according to Olwen Logan, Jack Turner’s news editor-turned-successor who guided the website through the next two decades. She believed, like her mentor, that no story was too big for the two small towns with a combined population of roughly 10,000 people.

Jack and Olwen were among the earliest pioneers of the local online news model that has proliferated through the decline in print journalism. With community always at its center, LymeLine’s neighborly news focus has kept readers informed and included. The friendly, conversational approach fostered by Olwen welcomed all voices.

On Nov. 17, Olwen turned over operations to LymeLine Inc., a new, non-profit, tax-exempt corporation. LymeLine’s board of directors is committed to ensuring the legacy continues. I am gratified that they have entrusted me to carry on her tradition in bringing you News & Views from the Lymes.

As editor, I look forward to serving our readers with the same sense of community spirit and public service that has made LymeLine a valued resource over the years. I’m committed to maintaining that trusted voice through accurate and fair reporting grounded in independent editorial standards.

The board of directors will support our mission and ensure our long-term strength. Their guidance in big-picture planning and responsible stewardship will celebrate LymeLine’s past while preserving its future.

Importantly, the board intends to keep our content available for free as a public service. That is where you come in. We need readers to become supporting members through a new portal to be announced soon on a redesigned website. We also want to help local firms, professionals, and businesses market their services to the community. Advertise with us!

And please join me in congratulating Olwen for a job well done! I’m looking forward to the work yet to come.
