Exploring the United States Through Art in LAA Series, Sept. 30-Oct. 28

OLD LYME, CT – The Lyme Art Association will offer a five-part online class, “The Art of America: Celebrating Our 250th Anniversary,” from Sept. 30 through Oct. 28.

The Wednesday sessions will run from 1 to 2 p.m.

Old Lyme resident and art historian Bob Potter will explore the art and lives of leading American artists from the Colonial era through the mid-20th century. The series will use iconic paintings, biographical details and videos to examine American history through art.

The classes will be held via Zoom and recorded for participants who cannot attend live or prefer to watch on their own schedule. Class links will be emailed before the first session.

The cost is $100 for the five-part series. The organization said Potter is donating his time and talent, with all proceeds supporting the association’s historic gallery and year-round art education programs.

Potter is a former executive director of the Lyme Art Association and has worked in art direction and creative direction for Scholastic Magazines, Time Warner and National Geographic. He later served as a corporate development officer for the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C., headed marketing and communications for Mystic Seaport and helped create an arts therapy program for Save the Children. He is currently a docent at the Yale Center for British Art.
