Get Rid of Unused Medications at Drug Take Back Day in Old Lyme, Oct. 24
Safely dispose of unused and expired medications at a free, anonymous Drug Take-Back Day event at the Lyme Street firehouse.

OLD LYME, CT – Lymes’ Youth Service Bureau (LYSB) and the Lyme-Old Lyme Prevention Coalition will provide another opportunity to safely dispose of unused medications at Drug Take Back Day on Saturday, Oct. 24.
The drive-through event will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Lyme Street firehouse, 69 Lyme St.
The event provides a free and anonymous way to rid homes of potentially dangerous, expired and unwanted prescription and over-the-counter drugs.
Collection sites will not accept syringes or illicit drugs. Liquid products, such as cough syrup, should remain sealed in their original container. The cap must be tightly sealed to prevent leakage.
The U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency said Take Back Day has removed more than 20.4 million pounds (10,200 tons) of medication from circulation since its inception in 2010. This year, there are more than 4,200 drop-off locations nationwide.
The mission of the Lyme-Old Lyme Prevention Coalition is to prevent and reduce youth alcohol and drug use by collaborating with the community to raise awareness, modify social norms, educate youth and adults, initiate policy change and promote healthy activities.
In addition to LYSB and the prevention coalition, the event brings together the Old Lyme Police Department, Old Lyme Fire Department, Connecticut State Police and U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration in support of the mission.
