Two Cars Stolen in Old Lyme Despite Theft Warnings
After two cars were stolen Thursday, Old Lyme’s resident state trooper is urging residents to make locking up a habit.
OLD LYME, CT – Two vehicles were stolen from Browns Lane in the early morning hours Thursday, according to Old Lyme Resident State Trooper Derek McGregor.
McGregor on Friday said the cases are the only recent vehicle thefts he is aware of in Old Lyme, although neighboring communities including East Lyme have also experienced a recent uptick.
McGregor emphasized residents should lock their vehicles and take their keys inside.
He said the town placed large electronic message signs near McCurdy Road and Still Lane warning residents to lock their vehicles about two weeks ago.
“We had heard about the other towns having this issue, and we were trying to avoid it,” he said. “And then this happens.”
He encouraged residents to make locking up part of their routine.
“I turn my dishwasher on every night and lock the cars,” he said. “It’s an important thing to do.”
