On Learn to Row Day, Try Out the Sport in Old Lyme Where Olympians Have Trained

The Old Lyme Rowing Association and Blood Street Sculls invite beginners to a free event on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. as part of a nationwide USRowing program.

OLD LYME, CT –The Old Lyme Rowing Association (OLRA) and Blood Street Sculls will open their boathouse to the public on Saturday as part of USRowing’s annual National Learn to Row Day at Hains Park.

The free event, scheduled from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Fred Emerson Boathouse, 174 Post Post Road, is designed for anyone interested in learning more about the sport of rowing.

Participants will receive an introduction to rowing equipment, technique and safety before getting in the boat to give it a try.

National Learn to Row Day is held each year on the first Saturday in June at rowing clubs across the country.

The rowing program in Old Lyme has been an incubator for rowing excellence for over 50 years. Started in 1965 on Blood Street by Fred Emerson, the organization initially known as Blood Street Sculls has cultivated national champions and Olympians since its inception.
