OLD SAYBROOK, CT – The Estuary invites neighbors to make a meaningful impact in local lives by taking part in its Giving Tree initiative, now through the end of the year.

Visitors can stop by The Estuary’s center, located at 220 Main Street in Old Saybrook, to select a tag from the tree and purchase gifts or necessities that directly benefit several local organizations and programs serving vulnerable populations in the region.

The Estuary in a press release said it has partnered with a diverse group of beneficiaries to ensure the Giving Tree addresses a wide range of community needs. Participants can choose tags that support The Estuary’s own Meals on Wheels program, which provides critical nutrition to homebound seniors. Other tags will collect items for Old Saybrook Youth and Family Services, Fostering Family Hope, Covenant Shelter, and Dan Cosgrove Animal Shelter.

By selecting a variety of human services and animal welfare, the Estuary said it aims to provide comprehensive support to the entire community.

The Estuary is a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting older adults in Chester, Clinton, Deep River, Essex, Killingworth, Lyme, Old Lyme, Old Saybrook, and Westbrook.

Heather Milardo, Director of Development for The Estuary, said The Estuary – as a central hub for community engagement in the region – aims to alleviate the burden on partner organizations so they can focus on their core missions of care and support during the busy winter months.

“As a nonprofit organization, The Estuary understands how essential community support is for the survival and success of charitable programs and we believe that nonprofits supporting nonprofits creates a stronger safety net for everyone,” she said.

Community members interested in participating can visit The Estuary during regular business hours Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. to select a tag. Unwrapped gifts and donations should be returned to the same location by the date specified on the tag.
