Lymes’ Youth Service Bureau (LYSB) is hosting a “Meet the Candidates for Board of Education” forum on Wednesday, Oct. 22, at 7 p.m. at the Lyme-Old Lyme Middle School auditorium.
The event will be moderated by Eric Parker of WFSB and both livestreamed and recorded.
All community members are invited to attend the event.
The forum provides a valuable opportunity for the public to hear directly from the candidates running for the Region 18 Board of Education. Attendees will gain insight into each candidate’s positions, priorities, and plans for the future of our schools.
In advance publicity information about the event, LYSB states, “Don’t miss this chance to make an informed decision and help shape the future of education in our community.”
For more information and to submit questions, visit: www.lysb.org/boe The deadline to submit questions was Monday, Oct. 20.

Question. As an official senior citizen i have more of an appreciation for the importance and benefits of saving throughout life and starting young. I also sense a lack of knowledge about savings/stocks/compound interest/life insurance/ taxes, etc. wondering if there is now a high school course (would think second semester of senior year) and if not, can one be started and if yes, will you push for it? I am thinking have real bankers, financial advisors, etc coming in for guest lectures. Besides an actual teacher.
Pre-submitted questions are a ticket to snoozeville.
It’s 2025. Let’s hear candidates talk about where they stand on the issues being pushed by their respective parties, and let’s not tolerate any of the disingenuous weaselese where people make the specious claim that “Hartford politics” or “Washington politics” doesn’t filter down to small towns like Lyme and Old Lyme.
I appreciate your efforts to create a “meet the candidates” forum for the board of education. When will you host a candidates form for the select persons who are running for office? These are critical positions and citizens should be able to hear both sides of the issues.
Our reporter, Elizabeth Regan, endeavored to organize a debate for the candidates running for the OL Board of Selectmen. The Democratic candidates accepted the invitation but the RTC chairman informed Elizabeth that the Republican candidates would not be participating due to scheduling conflicts with other community events “as well as an intense docket for talking to voters on the streets and roads of Old Lyme” that he said have been in place for several months.
