New Year, New Comments Policy

OLD LYME — We have allowed readers to comment on our articles and Letters to the Editor for more than 20 years and overall it has been a successful vehicle for thoughtful, respectful, and often supportive comments.

Sadly, some of the comments have become increasingly contentious and objectionable. Moreover, when we choose not to publish a comment because it does not comply with our Policy on Comments and/or Letters, we have, on occasions, received offensive emails including personal attacks. But most importantly, these comments have not been consistent with our core mission of being an integral part of the community that we love nor do they add any value to LymeLine’s content.

We are therefore changing our Comments Policy with immediate effect. We are no longer going to offer readers the opportunity to comment on articles or Letters to the Editor in LymeLine.

We will, however, continue to welcome reader’s opinions submitted for consideration in the form of Letters to the Editor . We hope this will provide an ongoing forum for an energetic exchange of views.

As always, we thank you for your continuing support.

Author

Olwen Logan grew up in a family of London educators but was inspired by her great grandfather, influential Daily Chronicle newspaper editor Alfred Ewen Fletcher, to pursue journalism. She built a successful career in efficiency analysis and senior audit management before launching her own PR-focused consultancy. After moving to the U.S. in 1990 and settling in Old Lyme in 1994, she became a staff writer for the now-closed Main Street News and later joined Jack Turner’s fledgling LymeLine.com, discovering the career she had always wanted—albeit in an unexpected digital form. Even after relocating to Maryland, she continued covering Lyme and Old Lyme with the same dedication, earning national recognition as a LION Publishers award finalist in 2020. After more than two decades of service, Olwen stepped away in November 2025, donating LymeLine.com to the newly formed nonprofit LymeLine Inc. and expressing her excitement for its continued growth and mission.
