VOTE, VOTE, VOTE! Where to Vote in Person TODAY, How to Vote by Absentee Ballot TODAY, How to Register to Vote (and Vote!) TODAY

LYME/OLD LYME — Today is the day of the national election. Here is a summary of important details to assist you in the voting process. We will publish the results as soon as possible after they are announced.

IN-PERSON VOTING

For LYME Residents

For voters who wish to vote in person, the polls at Lyme Town Hall, 480 Hamburg Rd., Lyme, will be open today, Tuesday, Nov. 3, from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.

For OLD LYME Residents

For voters who wish to vote in person, the polls at the Lyme-Old Lyme Middle School Gymnasium, 53 Lyme St., Old Lyme will be open today, Tuesday, Nov. 3, from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. NOTE THIS NEW LOCATION.

At Both Locations

Masks will be required and social distancing will be observed.

VOTING BY ABSENTEE BALLOT TODAY IN BOTH TOWNS

Absentee Ballots must be deposited in the Official Ballot Drop Boxes located outside the Lyme and Old Lyme Town Halls by 8 p.m. TODAY. The Ballot Drop Boxes will be locked promptly at 8 p.m. Absentee Ballots NOT received by 8 p.m. today will NOT be counted.

The Official Ballot Drop Boxes are for completed ballots only. No other material should be deposited in the drop boxes.  You should only deposit your ballot in the Town of Old Lyme Drop Box if you are a voter of Old Lyme. Similarly, you should only deposit your ballot in the Town of Lyme Drop Box if you are a voter of Lyme.

Do not drop your ballot in the drop box of any other town.

All Absentee Ballots received by USPS mail at the town halls by 8 p.m. today will be counted. Any Absentee Ballots received by USPS mail after today — regardless of the postmark — will not be counted.

ELECTION DAY REGISTRATION (EDR)

Election Day Registration permits anyone to register and vote in person on Election Day who meets the eligibility requirements for voting in this state and is not already registered, OR is registered in one town but has moved to another town.

By law, a person is eligible to register and vote if he or she is (1) a US citizen, (2) age 18 or older, (3) a bona fide resident of the town in which he or she applies for admission, and (4) has completed confinement and parole if previously convicted of a disfranchising felony.

Election Day Registration is NOT available at your polling place, but is available at a designated EDR location in each town, beginning at 6 a.m. and ending at 8 p.m. The EDR location for Lyme and Old Lyme is in both cases the respective town hall where you are registering to vote.

You will register AND vote at the designated EDR location in your town. Plan to arrive early in the day as there may be long lines. You must be registered by 8 p.m. in order to vote. You will need to provide proof of identity and residency.
