World Series Hopes End for Shoreline Wildcats in Senior League Softball East Regional Championship

WORCESTER, MA – The Shoreline Wildcats’ bid for a return to the Little League Senior League Softball World Series ended Tuesday with a 7-5 loss to the Lakeland All-Stars of Pennsylvania in the East Regional championship game.

The Wildcats won their first four games in the tournament.

According to a recap provided by the team, Connecticut took an early lead when Isabella Franklin doubled home a run in the first inning, but Lakeland answered with three runs in the bottom of the inning. The Wildcats rallied in the fourth inning, taking the lead after RBI plays from AJ Scrivo and Franklin, but Lakeland regained the lead in the fifth inning and held on for the win.

Sawyer Barreto started for Connecticut and took the loss, going four and one-third innings, allowing six runs (three earned) on nine hits, striking out three and walking one. Franklin and Nana Cruz each had two hits for the Wildcats, while Franklin, Barreto and Scrivo each drove in a run.

The loss came one day after the Wildcats defeated New York 6-0 behind a strong pitching performance from Barreto, who allowed just four hits. Avery Goiangos led the offense with three hits, including a solo home run in the fifth inning.

The Wildcats’ run through the East Regional tournament capped an impressive postseason after they won the Connecticut state championship earlier this month.
