Celebrating Neighbors Whose Stories Brighten Lyme and Old Lyme
From inspiring feats to everyday deeds, In the LymeLight recognizes the people with ties to our community whose dedication makes a difference.

Two Old Lyme preserves are getting new wood duck houses thanks to members of the Lyme-Old Lyme High School ECOS (Environmental and Community Organization of Stewards) Club who hammered out a plan to create safe havens for cavity-nesting birds.
Open Space Commission member Andrea Fenton said it’s not the first time the commission has coordinated with the high school’s environmental stewards. This time around, the students built the duck houses to install in the town’s Bartholomew and Ames preserves.
The wood boxes, designed to fit specific duck dimensions, includes wire mesh inside the front door so baby ducks can get a toehold as they climb up and out of the nest.
Fenton said the commission will be coordinating with Joe Attwater of the Connecticut Audubon Society to guide placement in the preserves.
