Letter to the Editor: Sewer Monster Could be Coming for You Next

A WPCA member calls Old Lyme’s sewer project a looming financial “monster” and warns the upcoming referendum could set a costly precedent townwide.

To the Editor:

I write as a proud resident of Old Lyme and a member of the Old Lyme WPCA.

The Sewer project that we are all facing certainly has the potential of causing financial chaos for many residents in the Beach communities.

Millions of dollars in expenses associated with this project which has become a Monster for the town are looming! Costs continue to increase and yet those of us who are residents of the Sound View area will pay the price! In Old Lyme, the ENTIRE town will be allowed to vote on a multi million dollar project that will not directly affect all those being allowed to vote YEA or NEA. I asked to be appointed to the WPCA to be an active part of our community in other ways, except sewers are a NO.

Along with me, several others on the WPCA also cannot in good conscience support the project as planned at this time. There are other alternatives to sewers that have been offered but those options have been discarded by many, especially on our WPCA .

If you live in Old Lyme but are not directly affected by the current Monster staring at us, is your part of town next? How about the Rogers Lake area and others?

I plead with you all to vote NO on the referendum likely coming in December of this year! We need to stop this now!

Sincerely,

Brian Cornell
