Letter to the Editor: Wisialowski Offers Collaborative Approach to Affordability

This Lyme resident says Jane Wisialowski understands that addressing rising costs requires cooperation among local, state and federal governments.

To the Editor:

I have been thinking about the November election here in Connecticut and recently read a quote from Jane Wisialowski. Jane is running for our state representative in District 23. She says that she is focused on a more affordable future in our communities. I think that is a focus we can all embrace!

The cost of living has been rising steeply over the past couple of years. Groceries cost more, energy costs are way up, housing costs are up, healthcare costs continue to rise and basic healthcare has become less attainable for many lower-income families. These increases have been exacerbated by federal program changes over the past two years. The question before us is how best to tackle the goal of affordability as we move forward. Our small towns can make some changes, but real change requires a united effort between local, state and federal government.

Jane promises to work on the bigger issues – ones that require cooperative actions among local, state, and federal efforts. Jane’s history of service within our community in areas of education, helping seniors and disabled neighbors, and town leadership prepares her with a broad understanding of the needs and capabilities of “small town” Connecticut.

Jane will arrive in this new office with skills she has developed in consensus-building. She is focused on working at the state level to bring state and federal resources back to our small town. Jane’s opponent appears to be focused on “local control.” This approach is likely to leave many important resources off the table.

I plan to vote for Jane.

Sincerely,
Carol House
