Art, live music, a veterans benefit and a dog-friendly fall festival are among the things to do this weekend.

Art, music and a chance to support local causes are among the highlights this weekend in Lyme and Old Lyme.

Artists & Friends Art Show
Hadlyme Public Hall revives a favorite tradition with its Artists & Friends Art Show, featuring paintings, photography, pottery and other work by regional artists. The show opens Friday evening with a reception and continues Saturday and Sunday. Proceeds benefit improvements to the historic Hadlyme Public Hall.

Old Lyme Animal Shelter PAWtoberfest
PAWtoberfest returns to the Old Lyme animal shelter Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Everyone is welcome, and dogs are encouraged. The event will feature live music by The Zephyr Band, local vendors, raffles and food and drinks from Cafe Laurel and Sunny Sips Beverage Truck. Proceeds will benefit Presents for Paws, a nonprofit that collects and distributes pet food and supplies to animal shelters across Connecticut.

VFW Benefit Supports Veterans in Need
Lyme-Old Lyme VFW Post 1467 hosts its annual benefit Saturday evening at Christ the King Parish Hall in Old Lyme. The event raises money for the VFW’s Vets in Need program. Musical Masterworks: What Makes Music American?
Musical Masterworks opens its 36th season with a program exploring the diverse traditions and influences that have shaped American music. The season-opening concerts are Saturday at 5 p.m. and Sunday at 3 p.m. at First Congregational Church of Old Lyme.
