Kids Can Take the Stage With PBS KIDS’ ‘Mr. Steve’ at Hamburg Fair

LYME/OLD LYME, CT – Local children are invited to join the Hamburg Fair Singers on stage with Steve Roslonek of SteveSongs, known to many families as “Mr. Steve” from PBS KIDS, during this year’s Hamburg Fair.

Lymes’ Youth Service Bureau (LYSB) has supported the concert for five years as a chance for kids to experience the excitement of performing for a hometown audience at the annual agricultural fair.

The free program is open to children regardless of singing experience and includes one rehearsal, a performance T-shirt and the opportunity to perform at the fair.

A rehearsal will be held Wednesday, Aug. 19, from 9 a.m. to noon. The performance is scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 22, at 10:30 a.m. at the Hamburg Fairgrounds, 2 Sterling City Road.

The show will include “The Hamburg Fair Song,” which was written in 2022 by Roslonek and local children after the fair’s two-year hiatus due to the pandemic. The kids included their favorite rides, foods and fair memories.

Since 2008, Roslonek has entertained and educated children through music, humor, storytelling and audience participation as Mr. Steve. Over his career, Roslonek has performed at venues including the Kennedy Center and the White House in Washington, D.C., Fenway Park in Boston, and Symphony Space in New York City, and has earned multiple awards including two Parents’ Choice Gold Awards for his children’s music.

LYSB Executive Director Mary Seidner in a statement hailed the agricultural fair as a 129-year-old tradition in Lyme that brings thousands of people together for a weekend of rides, animals, exhibits, food, contests, live entertainment and family fun.

“This isn’t about being an experienced singer — it’s about being part of something special in our community,” she said. “There’s something magical about seeing children walk onto that stage at the Hamburg Fair and perform in front of their hometown crowd. They’re making memories and becoming part of a tradition they’ll remember for years.”
