Lyme Art Association Marks America 250 with Focus on Connecticut, June 5-July 17

The opening reception for two of the exhibitions, including “A Connecticut History,” will be held Saturday, June 13, from 5 to 7 p.m.

OLD LYME, CT – The Lyme Art Association will open three summer exhibitions on June 5, including a special show celebrating Connecticut’s history and identity in conjunction with the United States’ 250th anniversary.

All shows run through July 17.

The featured exhibition, A Connecticut History, showcases landscapes, portraits, still lifes and sculpture that explore the people, places and stories that have shaped Connecticut. The exhibition combines traditional and historical subjects with contemporary and conceptual interpretations.

Also on view will be the Hudson Valley Art Association’s 93rd Annual Juried Exhibition, featuring oil and pastel paintings, aqua media, graphics and sculpture. The exhibit is designed to encourage respect for form, color and design, and the craftmanship that comes with it.

A third exhibition, My Town, features artwork by artists ages 5 to 18 inspired by Connecticut communities and local culture. An awards ceremony will be held June 20 at 11 a.m. as part of Family Day at the Lyme Art Association, which will also include art activities and live music by Kipp Sturgeon as well as the Wandering Fiddlers.

An opening reception for A Connecticut History and the Hudson Valley Art Association exhibition will be held June 13 from 5 to 7 p.m.

All exhibitions are free and open to the public through July 17 at the Lyme Art Association, 90 Lyme St. Gallery hours are Tuesday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information, visit lymeartassociation.org.
