A look inside Old Lyme’s Memorial Day ceremony, held indoors at Lyme-Old Lyme Middle School after rain canceled the traditional parade.
OLD LYME, CT – Morning rain washed out Monday’s traditional Memorial Day Parade, driving the remembrance ceremony indoors as members of the Lyme and Old Lyme community gathered to honor those who died in service to the country.

The Old Lyme Fire Department, which sponsored the event along with the Town of Old Lyme, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1467 and American Legion Post 41, arrived at the late-morning ceremony.

Firefighters filed into the Lyme-Old Lyme Middle School auditorium as the ceremony began.

Members of the Old Lyme Fire Department, the VFW and the American Legion led reflections on patriotism and service.

The Old Lyme Fire Department exited the middle school as members of the Old Lyme Police Department saluted following the ceremony.

Old Lyme Fire Department officers carried flowers tucked into the horns of ceremonial trumpets during Monday’s tribute.

Past Old Lyme Fire Department Chief Arthur “Skip” Beebe and Past Chief C. Ellis Jewett caught up at the firehouse, where the department served hot dogs after the ceremony.
