LYME/OLD LYME, CT – As the price of regular unleaded gas across Connecticut surpasses $4 per gallon, local drivers watch costs continue to climb.

Prices at area stations on Friday ranged from about $3.83 per gallon for regular unleaded at BJ’s Wholesale Club in Waterford to $4.29 at the Mobil station on Halls Road in Old Lyme, based on user-reported data from the GasBuddy app.

According to a report from Connecticut News Junkie, average gas prices in Connecticut passed the $4 threshold earlier this week.

Analysts cited in the report say the spike is being driven largely by rising global oil prices amid the war in Iran, the closing of the Strait of Hormuz and reaction on Wall Street to the geopolitical turmoil. They warned drivers not to expect significant relief anytime soon.

Data compiled by AAA as of Saturday puts the average price for regular unleaded in New London County at $4.08, compared to $4.05 the day prior and $3.95 a week ago.

The highest recorded average price in the county was recorded on June 14, 2022, when prices hit $4.99 per gallon as the effects of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine fully hit consumers at the pump.

  1. Beyond the pain at the gas pump, somewhat overlooked in media coverage is that the price of healing oil is now near/at $5.50 a gallon. And a fuel tank’s capacity can equal 10 vehicle tank fills.
