Chase Gilbert Repeats as New England 1-Mile Champion
The senior clocked 4:52.99, adding another milestone to a season of state championships and record-breaking performances.

LYME/OLD LYME, CT – Lyme-Old Lyme High School’s Chase Gilbert defended her 1-mile title Saturday at the 38th Annual New England Interscholastic Indoor Track & Field Championships in Boston.
Her 4:52.99 performance adds another highlight to the senior’s final indoor track season at the the high school. Earlier this month, she defended her 1,600-meter title at the Indoor State Open. At the CIAC Class S Indoor Track & Field Championships, she won the 1,600 meters and set a meet and school record in the 1,000 meters with a time of 2:50.29.
She’ll compete at the Nike Indoor Nationals at The Armory in New York City later this month.
“I’m feeling very excited to have the opportunity to race at high-level events against great competition and on the banked tracks,” she said last week.
As a cross-country runner, Gilbert was selected the 2025‑26 Gatorade Connecticut Girls Cross Country Player of the Year, one of the most prestigious statewide recognitions in high school athletics. The award acknowledges athletic achievements — including a State Open championship and four straight Class S titles — as well as academic success and community leadership.
Gilbert participates in the Lymes’ Youth Service Bureau “Run Like a Girl” initiative as a mentor after having gotten her start in the program when she was just 8 years old. She recently directed the Gatorade grant donation awarded in her name to help support the next generation of runners in the program that helped spark her passion.
