Cameron Russell Duels to Third-Place Tie at State Fencing Tournament
The third-place finish capped Lyme-Old Lyme High School’s showing at the state tournament, where all four fencers advanced past the opening round.

NEW HAVEN, CT – Junior Cameron Russell led the way for Lyme-Old Lyme at the Connecticut High School Fencing Association Individual Championships on Sunday, tying for third place out of 67 epee fencers.
Russell was one of four varsity competitors for Lyme-Old Lyme High School. He was joined by senior epee fencers Liza Gregoire and Daniel Shaposhnikov, while sophomore Henry Kyle competed in foil.
All four advanced out of the opening pool round as the top 80% of fencers moved on to direct elimination. Gregoire, Shaposhnikov and Kyle were eliminated in the next round.
Coach Karen Quinn said Russell’s podium finish reflected the group’s hard work throughout the season.
