WATERFORD, CT – The Currach Rowers of Connecticut Shores will celebrate St. Patrick’s season with an afternoon of Irish music and dance on Saturday, Feb. 28.

The event will feature live concerts by The Johnson Girls and The Jovial Crew, plus guest dancers from Spirited Soles Irish Dance Academy and a raffle of Irish-themed items.

The event runs from 3 to 6 p.m. at Filomena’s Restaurant, 262 Boston Post Road, Waterford.

Tickets are available online for $30, plus a $2 online processing fee. They may also be purchased at the door as space allows. To inquire about paying by check, email row.currach.nl@gmail.com.

Proceeds benefit the Currach Rowers of Connecticut Shores, formerly known as the New London Currach Rowers. Food and beverages will be available for purchase.

The Currach Rowers of Connecticut Shores is a nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving and promoting the sport that revolves around lightweight boats used for centuries along the Irish coast. The group’s modern currachs are built using traditional methods, with steam-bent wooden frames and canvas coverings.

President Mauren Plumleigh, of Old Lyme, said the club over the past six years has become a satellite program of the Glastonbury-based Irish American Home Society, changed its name from the New London Currach Rowers to Currach Rowers of Connecticut Shores and was recognized as a registered nonprofit organization.

In addition to teaching rowing, the organization competes in seasonal regattas organized by the North American Currach Association and will host a New London regatta in July.
