Chase Gilbert Headlines Several Strong Performances for Lyme-Old Lyme Track & Field at Conference Meet

Led by nationally ranked senior Chase Gilbert, members of the Lyme-Old Lyme High School men’s and women’s varsity track and field teams delivered several strong performances.

Gilbert’s 1000-Meter Win Makes Her Seventh Fastest in Nation

LYME-OLD LYME, CT – Led by nationally ranked senior Chase Gilbert, members of the Lyme-Old Lyme High School men’s and women’s varsity track and field teams delivered several strong performances at Wednesday’s Shoreline Conference meet in New Haven. 

Gilbert won the women’s 1000 meters in 2:52.97, a time that Coach Alyssa Mercaldi said Wednesday ranks seventh in the nation. Sophomore Maia Guisti placed third with a time of 3:18.19.

In the 300 meters, senior Serena Mazzi placed first with a time of 43.93, while Guisti placed fifth in 46.96. 

In the long jump, Mazzi’s 15 feet, 8.5 inch jump landed her in first place.  

On the men’s side, the varsity 4×800 relay team placed first with Cole Haslam, Maxwell Paonessa, Miles Coppola, and Ryan Ortoleva posting a time of 9:28.94. The sprint medley relay (SMR) of Jonah Filardi, Trevor Buydos, Kevork Shegirlan, and Ryan Ortoleva finished third in the 1600-meter event with a time of 4:02.28.

Senior Tyler Cann placed first in the 12-pound shot put with a throw of 50 feet, 10 inches. 

As a team, the girls finished seventh out of 13 teams. The boys placed eighth.
