Letter to the Editor: Mesham Endorses Labriola as ‘Common-Sense, Moderate’ Candidate
Old Lyme Selectman John Mesham said Labriola, like current state Rep. Devin Carney, R-Old Lyme, “understands the paramount importance of ‘keeping it local.'”
To the Editor:
I am writing to express my strong support for Barbara Labriola in her campaign for state representative in Connecticut’s 23rd District. We need a representative who genuinely understands the financial pressures facing our families, seniors and local businesses. Barbara is exactly that leader, drawing on her experience as a town treasurer.
Barbara’s platform directly addresses the root causes of our state’s cost-of-living crisis with a clear focus on pocketbook issues. To provide immediate relief to families, she has pledged to reform state energy policies, fight for true regulatory oversight and drive down skyrocketing utility costs. Recognizing the heavy burden on local homeowners, Barbara is committed to cutting property taxes by eliminating the unfunded municipal mandates that continually force local town budgets higher.
Her economic plan protects both our seniors and our local economy. She will advocate fiercely to eliminate state income taxes on Social Security, ensuring retirees can afford to stay in the communities they helped build. Drawing from her deep fiscal background, she will champion policies that reduce red tape, strengthen small businesses and foster sustainable economic growth.
Crucially, Barbara represents a continuation of the common-sense, moderate leadership we have come to rely on from our current state representative, Devin Carney. Like Carney, who has enthusiastically endorsed her campaign, Barbara understands the paramount importance of “keeping it local.” She firmly believes that the choices shaping our neighborhoods, schools and zoning laws belong in the hands of our local towns and residents, not in the centralized bureaucracy of Hartford.
Barbara Labriola will hit the ground running on day one to protect our taxpayers and preserve the unique character of our communities. I urge my neighbors to join me in voting for Barbara. Early voting is open; make your voice heard.
Sincerely,
John Mesham
Old Lyme
Editor’s Note: Mesham is a Republican member of the Old Lyme Board of Selectmen.
