Letter to the Editor: Local Control at Issue in November Election
An endorsement of Republican Barbara Labriola argues Democratic state control threatens local authority over issues including taxes and zoning.
To the Editor:
Local control is the key issue in our upcoming election.
Prominent members of the Democratic majority in the Connecticut legislature have proposed legislation that would erode local control, damaging local tax rates and our quality of life. These proposals include shifting car tax revenue from municipalities to the state and transferring local zoning control to state authorities.
If Gov. Lamont wins a third term alongside Democratic supermajorities in both houses, local control and our community traditions face imminent risk.
Following Republican Devin Carney’s retirement, Republican Barbara Labriola’s election is pivotal to preserving local control in Old Saybrook, Westbrook, Lyme and Old Lyme. Please vote to protect our towns.
