Letter to the Editor: Deep Bench for Old Lyme’s Board of Education

With a special election scheduled for Oct. 6, an Old Lyme Democrat writes in about the party’s chosen candidate.

To the Editor:

I am heartened by and appreciative of the high caliber and number of remarkable residents (5) who reached out to the Old Lyme Democratic Town Committee (DTC) for its endorsement to fill a vacancy on the Board of Education (BOE) at the Oct. 6 vote. We are fortunate in Old Lyme to have such a deep bench of qualified residents willing to devote significant time and effort to assure the continued quality of education in Regional School District 18.

The Old Lyme DTC endorsed Devin Berke because his qualifications and commitment enable him to make a particularly substantial contribution to the BOE. In addition to being the parent of a young student at Mile Creek Elementary and consistently involved in school affairs, he is an accountant and a business leader for a local construction company.

The Region 18 Board of Education, taxpayers, students, and families will all benefit from the election of Devin Berke.  Please attend the 6 p.m. Special Town Meeting on Oct. 6 at the Lyme-Old Lyme Middle School and support Devin with your vote.

Sincerely,
Mary Jo Nosal
Old Lyme
