Lyme-Old Lyme Senior Softball Claims State Title, Advances to Regionals
The girls are headed to Worcester, where they will compete for a spot in the Little League Senior Softball World Series.

BRISTOL, CT — A berth in the Little League Senior Softball World Series is on the line as the Lyme-Old Lyme Senior Softball All-Stars head to the Regional Tournament in Worcester, Mass.
The Wildcats won the opening game of the Connecticut state championship series and advanced when Enfield forfeited Game 2, according to the team.
The girls defeated Enfield 7-1 Wednesday night at Rockwell Park in Bristol, with pitcher Sawyer Barreto striking out 13 batters while allowing just three hits and one run over seven innings.
The Wildcats took a 1-0 lead in the second inning when Juliana Spencer singled to score a run. They added two more runs in the third on an RBI triple by Avery Goiangos and an RBI groundout by Isabella Franklin.
Goiangos and Spencer each had two hits for the Wildcats. Goiangos drove in two runs, and the Wildcats stole nine bases in the game.
The state championship was scheduled to continue Thursday night in a best-of-three forma, but the team said Enfield’s forfeit sent the Wildcats directly to the regional tournament.
The Wildcats are scheduled to compete in Worcester from July 25 to 28.
