Letter to the Editor: Why Old Lyme Needs Brandy Campbell on the Board of Education

Old Lyme voters have a direct opportunity on July 21 to place a much-needed, fresh perspective on the Board of Education by supporting Brandy Campbell.

Brandy is an active parent with two children currently in our school system, which gives her a direct, personal stake in the daily operations and success of our schools. She also brings an exceptional professional background to the table. As a veterinarian and a scientist, Brandy is trained to listen carefully, ask rigorous questions, analyze complex data and make decisions based on objective facts.

Furthermore, her commitment to Old Lyme is already well-proven. She currently serves as the chair of the Old Lyme Conservation Commission, demonstrating her deep dedication to the future, character and well-being of our town.

I believe Brandy Campbell to be the independent advocate our community needs, and she is someone I trust. She has explicitly stated her commitment to welcoming different viewpoints, communicating honestly and collaborating respectfully with parents, teachers and neighbors alike.

A 9-0 one-party board does not accurately reflect the diversity of thought in the district. We have the chance to add one crucial seat representing a different, highly qualified perspective which represents a lot of parents in Old Lyme.

I strongly urge Old Lyme voters to support Brandy Campbell for the Region 18 Board of Education, and I am proud to endorse her.

Please attend the town meeting on Tuesday, July 21 at 6 p.m. at Lyme-Old Lyme Middle School and cast your vote to put a dedicated mother, scientist and community leader on our Board of Education.
