Sea Shanties, History Sail Into Essex for Sea Music Festival, June 12-15

The 5th Annual Connecticut Sea Music Festival returns with concerts, workshops, reenactments and maritime traditions along Main Street and the riverfront.

ESSEX, CT – The 5th Annual Connecticut Sea Music Festival will return to historic downtown Essex June 12–15, bringing a weekend of maritime music, history and family-friendly programming along the Connecticut River.

The Festival includes a Friday “Symposium on the Music of the Sea,” followed by a weekend of free daytime workshops and concerts with regional and local performers, a family stage, and demonstrations of sailor skills and Irish currach rowing. Programming also includes a Revolutionary War reenactment and fife and drum parade to mark America’s 250th anniversary celebration, as well as a hymn sing and late-night pub sings.

Evening concerts at the Connecticut River Museum are ticketed. Visitors are encouraged to explore Main Street Essex throughout the weekend, where sea shanties and maritime music will be performed in public spaces.

The festival also includes demonstrations and cultural programming highlighting maritime traditions and community participation.
