WESTERLY, R.I. – Join Old Lyme historian Capt. Jack Spratt as he explores the role of Revolutionary War privateers in a talk at the historic Lanphear Livery on Tuesday, July 1, at 6 p.m.

Spratt will focus on how local privateers – privately owned vessels authorized to raid enemy shipping – played a critical role in the early years of the American Revolution.

Titled A Lifeline of Liberty, the program is sponsored by the Westerly Historical Society with support from Gray Sail Brewing and the Watch Hill Conservancy. It will be held in the Watch Hill section of Westerly at 1 Bay St.

The event is free and open to the public.
